A fractal to bring Ancient Egypt to mind. Fine fractals created by Piglette.
Scarabs had many important roles in the times of the ancient Egyptians. The scarab beetle was believed to bring good luck, and the Egyptians created various types of jewelry and amulets to bring good fortune. These charms were also believed to protect the dead, being particularly helpful in providing a safe journey into the afterworld. When placing a scarab with a person's mummified remains, the soul would be protected from any enemy speaking out against the deceased in the presence of the guardians of the balance.
Even today, a scarab is believed by many to bring good luck. Modelled on the humble dung beetle, but created from anything from colored glass to alabaster, the scarab is proof that even the most unlikely creature can find its way into the hearts of human kind.
